Facilities
Edith C. Blum Institute
The Edith C. Blum Institute is the home of the Music Program. It provides practice space for staff and students, faculty offices, classrooms, and a lounge. It contains a 100-seat concert hall, an electronic music room, a listening booth, and a fully equipped soundproof recording studio, one of the most sophisticated of its kind in the Hudson Valley. The facility is equipped with new grand and upright Yamaha pianos, donated to the College by the manufacturer. Bard Hall Bard Hall is used by the Music Program and other programs for lectures, recitals, rehearsals, and classes. It was completely restored in 1986 with generous assistance from the late John H. Steinway '39, who had been a trustee of the College. A new, bigger building is being planned for 2004. Richard B. Fisher Center for Performing Arts A dazzling structure on the Bard College campus, the Center for the Performing Arts marks a transforming event in the cultural life of the college - a moment in which theater, dance, music, and opera have found a stunning new showcase in one of the nations leading cultural centers. Designed by the renowned architect Frank O. Gehry, the 109,000-square-foot building suits its purpose and its setting. The Center will be home to the acclaimed Bard Music Festival, as well as other Bard-sponsored music organizations. A spirit of innovation and experimentation will inform the programming plans of the center, which will collaborate with other organizations in presenting works by touring artists and developing original productions. Olin Humanities Building Two rooms are available for rehearsals in the Olin Humanities Building on main campus, room 104 and 106. Electronic Studio Bard's electronic music and recording studios offer state-of-the-art facilities for productions and performance methods ranging from analog synthesis (Serge Modular) to MIDI and digital audio sequencing, digital recording, sampling, editing (Pro Tools), and Power Mac (G4)based digital synthesis (MSP, Sound Hack). An informal lab allows for the design and construction of electronics in many forms, from basic analog circuitry to the programming of microcontrollers and sensors. The object-oriented programming environment MAX is available for live digital interaction and control. Basement Practice Rooms In the following buildings there are basement practice rooms available: Bluecher, Leonard, Obreshkove, Bourne, Shelov and Wolff.
